Movement, gesture, history, layers, transparency, depth, soft edges and strong lines-these are the roots of my art practice.  I am exploring my own history of dance and ballet and the realization that dance inspires my every move.  Each of my paintings has a joyous  beginning as I simply play with paint and colour without thinking about controlling the outcome.  For me its best to start with freedom, colour and gestural marks.  I’ll pop in my headphones and get the music flowing into my mind and body and just see what arrives on the canvas.  Once I break up that blank space I begin to cultivate the mood of the piece and I settle in to creating my story with paint, charcoal and pencil and sometimes my hand made papers find their way onto the canvas. It is a completely creative process – control is my enemy at this point!  The best outcomes are always when I let the art speak to me, and I listen!
